Ideas for Actions and Partnerships for Small Island Developing States
A partnership benefits from involvement of all stakeholders, and starts with an idea of a common objective. An inspiring idea could eventually lead into a partnership and global action for the sustainable development of Small Island Developing States.

This section allows you to share ideas for improvement of your community – or one you wish to share to another. You can either submit your own idea, or be inspired by others and expand on existing ideas by suggesting improvements or provide expertise.

Power Increasing Mechanism
This mechanism will increase the power with help of the Lever Principle. The solutions have been found to avoid disadvantage and to take maximum advantage from the Lever Principle to pull off the maximum force from two sides of this mechanism. We can use this force, for all kinds of motors to increase the power and speed wonderfully. It will be possible to generate unlimited clean electricity by a new way for-free, indoor, everywhere, on Earth, in Space and on any Planet without using of fuels....

Ciguatera fish poisoning in the Pacific monitoring and solutions
Ciguatera in the Pacific, 500,000 fish poisoning cases, please view http://www.plosntds.org/article/info%3Adoi%2F10.1371%2Fjournal.pntd.0001416 The negative impacts to human populations of benthic dinoflagellate toxins in tropical coastal fisheries products are well known, these impacts and increasing frequency are most felt in indigenous coastal populations that rely on fish for subsistence and export. At the most recent CFP workshop in Noumea 2008, most of the delegates of the island countries represented declared their CFP problem to be serious and needed help with monitoring, taxonomy and ecotoxicology etc, and that there was no funding to deal with the problem. This disease will get worst due to climate chnage and needs to be confronted....

Affordable Brick Molds for Making Bricks
The need for housing is one of the biggest challenge everywhere. The privileged who have a source of income can afford an accommodation while the under privileged, low income earners make do with whatever they can lay their hands on. With shortage of land in urban centers this pressure has created huge number of squatters. We in Appropriate Technology Community Development Institute in PNG University of Technology have been developing and making low cost brick molds for any individual to make bricks to build his own home. We have developed many designs for 8\" stand block, 8\" half block, road pavers, and more. We are looking for donor assistance to develop and disseminate the ideas in any region. ...

IMPROVED FIREWOOD STOVES FOR PNG
Over 80% of people in Papua new Guinea live in scattered villages. Firewood is the primary cooking fuel in these villages. We at the Appropriate Technology Community Development Institute in PNG Unitech have been producing charcoal stoves, firewood stoves, drum ovens from discarded 44 gallon drums for many years. With no donor or aid support development of improved firewood stoves for Papua New Guinea rural population will remain and attractive idea without wings. We are looking for partners and donor support to develop this idea for us. ...

The major hindrance in PNG is having affordable/reliable lights for people and students to work after dark. Solar Candle will become the life changing tool for many communities in PNG...

Pacific Food Security and Trade
SPC is registering a new partnership, Pacific Food Security and Trade Partnership. The partnership platform is intended to show the coordinating role of SPC across national, regional and international donors and partners who are assisting with research and development into food security and trade facilitation and looking to strengthen current partnerships and forge new ones in the SIDS region. The challenge for SIDS is to ensure that growing rural and urban populations have access to sufficient food that is safe and nutritious. In rural areas, food should be made available in ways that enable households to produce it themselves, while in urban centres, nutritious food should be supplied at affordable prices. An integrated, multi-partner and multi-sectoral approach is paramount in addressing national food security issues. National agricultural systems provide research and extension advice to farmers on improved production technologies with the goal to move subsistence farming to commercial farming and increase trade for income generation. Trade in agricultural products is both to local markets and exports. Smallholder farmers in most cases would allocate a certain proportion of farm produce to meet family and cultural needs, and then find markets for surplus for income generation. SPC is assisted by regional and international donor partners such as the European Union, CIRAD, to share plant genetic resources on improved crop varieties to address food security; and regional donor partners like CTA, IFAD, Intra ACP, New Zealand and Australian governments assist SPC in value chain analysis and market access. This partnership will be introduced at the Food Security Side Event to gain traction and forge stronger relationships amongst SIDS region. ...

Climate Arts for SIDS
I want to provide a physical and imaginary space for artists to be cultural agents, delivering the messages revolving around the challenge climate change poses to Small Island Developing States. Climate Arts for SIDS can be an innovative tool for public engagement where art and climate intersect advocating for Small Island Developing States. It will aim to envisage, design and communicate strategies and activities that respond to the vulnerabilities in that region through artworks, songs, movies, books, theatre plays and photographs. These instruments have the power to convey their message directly addressing human emotions through creative insight. ...

Protection towards sea eating the land along shorelines
I am secretary towards our little island of Nomuka in the Ha\'apai Group of the Kingdom of Tonga. Current status of the damaging of the ocean is currently going to be a future catastrophy and an alarming future challenge. The problem is that it has to be a major form of overcoming this very sad natural challenge !!! The residences are identifying how this is going to be a major loss to its land. This is like a plee more or less at having the problem infront of you face but the island dwellers cannot do due to funding issues. It is a major issue to all other areas but I am only discussing this little island that its natural beauty is already in a state of Global disaster. Is there any way that our little island be assisted under our Nomuka Community Development Federations. Photos can be provided if this partnership idea be confronted in any small form of assisances. Thank you for the opportunity of expression from the Secretary of this community effort of how to address this natural issue....

Pacific Tourism & the Global Partnership for Oceans
Coastal and island nations usually know that preserving coral reefs yields economic benefits. The Global Partnership for Oceans claims that eco-tourism related to reefs is now a $9 billion business worldwide - inspiring some countries, such as Guinea-Bissau and Costa Rica, to include reef conservation and coastal planning in their economic strategies. How are the Pacific Islands addressing tourism\'s role as a user and steward of \'clean, blue\' oceans?...

Access to clean water and sanitation in urban areas of SIDS
Side event organized by UNECE and UN-Habitat. The outcome document of UNSCD (Rio+20), and the GA resolution A/RES/66/288, recognize that water is at the core of sustainable development as it is closely linked to a number of key global challenges. For SIDS, the conservation and sustainable management of freshwater resources is fundamentally dependent on sound knowledge and understanding of the water resources potential. CSD-13 encouraged SIDS to develop an effective integrated approach to freshwater management, involving the full collaboration of all interested stakeholders, in particular women, to ensure the sustainable utilization of water resources. E/CN.17/2005/12 on human settlements, water and sanitation asks to support, strengthen and implement voluntary monitoring, reporting and assessment of the thematic areas of water, sanitation and human settlements at the national and regional levels and through existing mechanisms at the global level to keep track of progress in achieving sustainable development, bearing in mind the specific needs of developing countries....

A 1CO2e SIDS Commemorative Coin and fundraising toolkit for youth

They freely circulate but send out a strong message on what\'s important and what people stand for. More: http://www.ecb.europa.eu/euro/coins/comm/html/index.en.html
2. Some of our SIDS are part of larger economic regions. I think we should develop a commemorative coin for the 2013 UN Int. year of SIDS
