S.A.M.O.A Pathway: consultations on food and nutrition action programme for SIDS begin
Responding to the request made in Paragraph 61 of the S.A.M.O.A Pathway, FAO is facilitating the development of an action program on food and nutrition for Small Island Developing States(SIDS), working closely with the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA) and the United Nations Office of the High Representative of for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Development States (OHRLLS).
In line with the roadmap that the FAO Director-General Josť Graziano da Silva, the Under-Secretary-General of DESA Wu Hongbo, and the Under-Secretary-General of OHRLLS Gyan Chandra Acharya presented to the SIDS Members in November 2015, the first round of consultations on the action program is taking place between March and April 2016 during side-events of the FAO Regional Conferences for Africa, Asia and the Pacific, and for Latin America and the Caribbean. These high-level consultations involve ministers of agriculture, environment, social protection, health and other areas related to food security and nutrition to ensure that the action program provides a comprehensive way forward in response to the challenges facing by SIDS. New York based representatives of SIDS are also participating in the regional side events.

The outcomes of the regional meetings will inform the next consultations on the SIDS action program that will take place during the Regional Economic Fora on Sustainable Development and through e-consultations.
