SIDS attending the next session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva (27 February - 24 March 2017)

The Trust Fund to Support the Participation of Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Small Island Developing States, administrated by the Human Rights Council of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), will support 10 delegates at the HRC34, including six SIDS: Cape Verde, Jamaica, Marshall Islands, Micronesia (Federated States of), Papua New Guinea, Tonga and Trinidad and Tobago

For 6 of the 7 SIDS Beneficiary Delegates (three women, four men), it will be their first time attending a regular session of the Human Rights Council. The SIDS Delegate are coming their capital (six) and New York (one).

In 2016, the Voluntary Technical Assistance Trust Fund to support the participation of Least Developed Countries (LDCs) and Small Island Developing States (SIDS) in the work of the Human Rights Council provided support to 24 delegates (18 women and 6 men).It has successfully assisted 19 Member States: 1 LDC and 18 SIDS. Those benefitting came from Africa (3); Asia and Pacific (10); and the Caribbean and Latin America (6).

Since it became operational in 2014, the Trust Fund has supported 59 delegates from 45 countries (18 LDCs and 27 SIDS): 26 men and 33 women!
