Adoption of modalities resolution of the Third International Conference on Small Island Developing States
On 11 December the Second Committee of the General Assembly adopted a resolution laying out the modalities of the Third International Conference on Small Island Developing States, including the schedule of its global preparatory meetings, the structure of the Conference itself, and the Conference theme, “the sustainable development of SIDS through genuine and durable partnerships.”

The preparatory meetings will be spread through the months leading up to the Conference, with the first formal meeting 24-26 February, informal inter-sessional meetings 21-25 April, and a final formal preparatory meeting 23-27 June, all in New York City.

The Conference itself will feature an innovative series of “multi-stakeholder partnership dialogues,” running in parallel to the plenary session. The partnership dialogues will provide the opportunity to recognize current successful partnerships and initiatives, launch new partnerships and initiatives involving a wide range of stakeholders, and hold interactive discussions on key priorities related to SIDS. In addition, interested participants will be invited to organize side events and other relevant activities in Samoa during the Conference and possibly in the four days immediately preceding. Guidelines for the selection process and other details regarding side events will be prepared after the next planning mission to Apia, scheduled for the end of January, and will be made available through the this website.
